Andrea Meyer grudgingly began playing tennis in Tucson as a high school freshman. “I knew nothing about tennis but was sure that it was a supremely sissy sport, a real cinch, (and stupid). Thirty minutes later and with an aching wrist, I had reversed my opinion, fallen in love, and still am,” she recalls. She holds a BA and M.ED. from the UA where part of her coursework was in athletic coaching. After retiring from teaching high school English and PE, Andrea became an RSPA Professional and has coached the Mingus Union girls' team for over 20 years. She’s also coached JTT teams and teaches Tennis in the Schools for the USTA in the Verde Valley. Andrea was selected as the SW USPTA High School Coach of the Year in 2019 and was the Billie Jean King Champions of Equality Award winner for the SW USTA region in 2024. “I most appreciate now the mental aspects of the game and what tennis can teach us about ourselves. “
